MRH Ranked #1 Small Hospital

Montrose Memorial Hospital has been recognized again! This current recognition comes from The Lown Institute, which is a nonpartisan group of experts who use data from patient outcomes, including satisfaction, safety and mortality rates. The acknowledgment considers value of care measurements, and civic leadership metrics – for example how much our hospital invests in the health of our community. MMH is ranked the #1 Small hospital and the #6 overall hospital in the entire state of Colorado. The Lown Institute states on their website that they are a new kind of hospital ranking, one that takes into account the full breadth of what hospitals do. The Lown Index evaluates hospitals’ performance based on how well they treat their patients, their commitment to providing high-value care, and their investment in community health.

Earlier this year, Montrose Memorial Hospital was named a 5 star hospital by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services – a status achieved by fewer than nine percent of U.S. Hospitals nationwide. It is also the only hospital in Colorado to be named a Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital for five consecutive years. You may be asking yourself, “why do these awards matter?” The coronavirus has made it clearer than ever before that hospitals are vital to America’s communities and MMH is an essential pillar for our local region. You need to be able to trust in the people who provide care and to know that we are on top of the latest treatment regimens and continue to stay ahead of what’s happening.

These recognitions use publicly available data to compile a scorecard to help our friends and family understand where a hospital’s strengths and weaknesses lie. People’s lives depend on hospitals making the right decisions and we constantly use quality and patient experience data to help guide our way.

Montrose has many things that contribute to making this a desirable place to live. Access to outdoor activities, the Black Canyon National Park, the water sports park, and a nationally recognized hospital are all right here. Our vision at MMH is to be the Healthcare System of Choice and we want our community members to know that when they choose us – they are making the right choice. You can truly feel a difference when you receive care here and we have the objective accolades to support those feelings. When a local community member heard about our latest award, he sent this note to our CEO. “I know my family has always received wonderful service from Montrose Memorial and this proves my point when I said my wife received better care at Montrose Memorial than at Swedish Medical Center. Thank you for an outstanding job and please let your staff know we greatly appreciate all of their efforts. We are blessed to have all of you at our local hospital.”
