Our Heart Health Experts

Over the years, I have heard various stories from community members about how our heart health experts in our Cardiology department have helped them: it’s impressive what skilled hands and advanced technology can do! Did you know that February is American Heart Month? As I reflect on our incredible team, I can’t help but share more information about our heart health experts and how the department has grown to where it is today.

In April of 2014, we welcomed Drs. David Lee and Riley Foreman to Montrose Memorial Hospital. These gentlemen are interventional cardiologists – a specialty of cardiology that refers to various non-surgical means for treating heart disease.

Dr. David Lee attended the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago and completed his Internship and Residency at Stanford University Medical Center in California.  He then finished a five-year fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.  He came to Montrose from Portland, Oregon where he was on the faculty at the Oregon Health and Science University.

Dr. Riley Foreman received his medical school training at the University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, MO and completed his internship at Charles E. Still Memorial Hospital in Jefferson City, MO.  After serving in the US Navy, he finished his Residency at the Naval Hospital in Oakland, CA.  He then completed his training with a fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego and an Interventional Cardiology fellowship at the University of California in San Diego.

Our community has been blessed to add more heart health providers: in 2016 we added Judy Collins, a Cardiovascular Nurse Practitioner and Board Certified Clinical Lipid Specialist.  She received her education from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI and has been an important addition to our Cardiology team. In 2018, we added Drs. Luther Weathers and Charles Wilkins to our team – both are Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology and came to us from Farmington, NM. Dr. Weathers is an interventional cardiologist who grew up in West Texas, graduating from medical school and doing his residency, internship and cardiology fellowship at Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

Dr. Wilkins is from a small town in Oklahoma and graduated from medical school at Tulane University in New Orleans, followed by internship and residency at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center and Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, and a cardiology fellowship at the Texas Heart Institute in Houston.

Last but not least, our providers work with highly skilled individuals in our cardiac catheterization lab and the MMH Cardiology Clinic. Whether our staff is assisting with minimally invasive procedures or helping you along your patient journey, our team includes many who are essential to providing you with the high level of care you experience at Montrose Memorial Hospital.

If your heart needs caring hands, our team can help. With more than 150 years of experience between our providers, know that you or your loved one are well among experienced Friends & Family when they are a patient of our heart health experts!
