Summertime Happenings at MRH!

With so much happening at Montrose Regional Health, I couldn’t pick only one topic to write about this month.  The expanded Lung and Sleep Center is growingwith the addition of our new pulmonologist, Dr. Hersh; the announcement of a new CEO; and sensational news from the San Juan Healthcare Foundation Boot Stomp Event.  It is exciting to be part of an organization that continues to grow and provide new services while consistently caring for patients during a very busy time throughout our hospital.  The compassion and strength of our providers and caregivers is, and has been, unrelenting and we are truly blessed to be cared for by such amazing people.

As you may have read in the community newsletter that was mailed out in May, we are excited to have Dr. Andrew Hersh join Drs Jimmy Gilbert and Lee Ettinger at our newly expanded Pulmonology Clinic now called Montrose Lung and Sleep Center at MRH.  The clinic moved from inside the hospital to their own space across the street at 904 South 4th Street.  Dr. Hersh finds it rewarding to be able to form long-term relationships with patients and help people breathe better, something Dr. Gilbert has been doing with his patients for over 13 years at MMH.  They will continue to work together while expanding the services offered.  In addition to pulmonary function tests and sleep studies, MRH will broaden our offerings to include comprehensive lung cancer screenings, lung nodule tracking and navigational bronchoscopy.  If you would like to learn more about these new services, talk to your provider or visit www.MontroseHealth.com.

Another celebration will occur at the end of August when Jeff Mengenhausen will begin as the Chief Executive Officer at MRH.  The Board of Directors chose Jeff from a large applicant pool, notably for his passion for rural medicine and his visionary and coaching leadership.  The hospital leadership team, who were also involved in the interview process, is excited by his enthusiasm, along with his relationship-building and leadership skills to help guide MMH into the future.  Mengenhausen is a former Navy SEAL with more than 15 years of experience leading hospital operations with a focus on quality and service.  Prior to joining Montrose, he was the CEO for Madelia Health in Madelia, Minnesota and prior to that he was at Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City, South Dakota.  Jeff and his wife Crystal have three active children and enjoy hiking, fishing, camping and being outdoors.  Jeff looks forward to being out in our community and getting to know people.

Finally, a huge thanks to everyone who participated in the Boot Stomp Fundraising event which is a fundraiser for the San Juan Cancer Center through the San Juan Healthcare Foundation. Terri Leben and her fantastic team of volunteers led an evening filled with a delicious BBQ dinner, boot-stompin’ county music, all culminating with a live and silent auction.  The money raised helps the amazing staff at our own Cancer Center care for patients during their journey through cancer treatment.  It was a fun event filled with friends and laughter for a great purpose.
