Tru-D Our Disinfecting Robot

Surgeries have begun, therapies are being performed, outpatients are having procedures and hospital life is rolling along at a more normal rate. We continue to follow safety precautions which include screenings, temperature checks, masks and more as MRH continues to be a safe environment for our communities to receive care.

In a time when cleanliness is essential for patient safety, Montrose Regional Health features Tru-D robotic disinfection technology to eliminate and disable harmful germs. Along with important patient safety guidelines, Tru-D’s state-of-the-art technology is helping to ensure a safe environment for Friends & Family.

Tru-D supplements MRH’s already award-winning Environmental Services team – adding an extra layer of protection against infections. Our incredible housekeeping and janitorial staff know what an important role they play in patient safety and in stopping the potential spread of infection throughout the hospital. They are highly trained and a very valued part of each patient’s experience.

When we care for someone who is confirmed or suspected to have COVID-19, Tru-D is taken to the room after the patient has been discharged to begin the disinfection process. Once placed in a room, the robot analyzes the room with sensors and dispenses a measured dose of UVC energy to disinfect and ensure a safe environment for patient care. Additionally, the area is cleaned and thoroughly disinfected by trained staff to ensure full cleanliness.

Tru-D measures six feet tall and projects light in all directions, allowing for disinfection even in areas of the room with shadows. The sensors on Tru-D allow the device to measure the UVC energy reflected from walls and surfaces and change energy dosage accordingly to ensure thorough room disinfection. Tru-D utilizes UVC light: short-wavelength ultraviolet light, a special kind of treatment that creates harsh conditions for germs – either killing or inactivating bacteria, viruses and protozoa.

Ten years after MRH became the first hospital on the Western Slope to feature the da Vinci Si robot-assisted surgical system, the hospital became the first to bring another new robotic technology to the region. Patients can be comforted by the fact that the hospital’s already-low infection rate is be aided by state-of-the-art technology. MRH is safe and always ready for patients – and Tru-D is one of many strategies MMH is taking to ensure Friends & Family are safe.
