San Juan Healthcare Foundation Hosts Fundraiser for San Juan Cancer Center

The San Juan Healthcare Foundation (SJHF) is excited to host the 3rd annual Boot Stomp Fundraiser to benefit the patients at the San Juan Cancer Center.  The event will be held at Antler Ridge on June 5th and features a barbeque and a barn dance, followed by a raffle and a live auction.  Live music will be played by Narrow Gauge Country band and event-goers are invited to wear cowboy casual dress to help “Stomp on Cancer.”

The Boot Stomp is a fun way to participate in helping to raise funds for people whose lives have been touched by cancer. These funds help pay for travel expenses and meals when people have to travel for additional care, massages to help calm stress, cancer exercise classes and more.  The fund even paid for a mattress for a patient with bone cancer who was sleeping on an air mattress.

Our communities are very blessed to have the San Juan Cancer Center in Montrose, offering both radiation and medical oncology care so patients can receive complete cancer care close to home.  A diagnosis of cancer is stressful and overwhelming, and we know that you would prefer to stay near your home, surrounded by friends, family and a supportive, caring community.  The SJCC offers every therapy you would expect to find in a big-city hospital, with board certified physicians with many years of experience in their area of expertise.

The Boot Stomp event continues a tradition of collaboration:  since 1982 the San Juan Healthcare Foundation and Montrose Memorial Hospital (MMH) have worked closely together to support the healthcare needs of our communities. Donations to the San Juan Healthcare Foundation are used to support the San Juan Cancer Center’s many programs, provide schools in our communities with AED’s and health curriculum, capital equipment purchases for the hospital, non-medical needs of patients, scholarships and so much more.  In January of 2021, long time Executive Director of the Foundation, Mary Snyder retired, and I became Executive Director.  I am excited to continue the outstanding work of the Foundation and work collaboratively with the SJHF and MMHI Boards.

Over the past year, the Foundation supported MMH by funding  SOM footwear, who ceased their normal operations for a time, and sewed hundreds of cloth face masks for staff. The SJHF also paid for other COVID expenses including safety glass, upgraded telehealth equipment, personal protective equipment (PPE), and a special meal, as well as San Juan Mobile coffee during very busy and stressful times.

Please plan to join us for the Boot Stomp Fundraiser on Saturday, June 5 from 5:00 – 10:00 p.m. at Antler Ridge at 72015 Kinikin Road.  Tickets are $60 and may be purchased online at www.bootstompmontrose.com or at The Liquor Store next to Walmart in Montrose.
