MRH Distributes Nearly Half a Million Dollars to Caregivers With HERO Bonus

MONTROSE, CO – In a time when health care employees are under various stressors during an ever-changing pandemic, Montrose Regional Health has taken steps to recognize their staff where it counts.

Montrose Regional Health recently invested nearly $500,000 into caregivers employed on or before August 1, 2021, who worked for the hospital between September 1, 2020 and August 31, 2021 with bonus checks. The hospital says the intent of the initiative is to help show appreciation for employees who have worked hard during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I am truly honored to work with such outstanding and dedicated caregivers,” said Montrose Regional Health CEO Jeff Mengenhausen in an e-mail distributed to hospital staff. “The Board of Directors and Leadership Team would like to show our appreciation for your unwavering hard work and dedication. This HERO bonus is one small way we want to say thank you for being our HERO!”

The bonus was formulated based on the hours an employee worked – a detail used to help recognize hospital caregivers who put in extra hours to care for the community.

“We are proud to acknowledge our incredible caregivers who have stayed with us to continue on this challenging journey,” said Leann Tobin, Chief Marketing/Philanthropy Officer for Montrose Regional Health.

The hospital has been experiencing additional challenges recently, facing reduced hospital bed availability due to a surge of COVID patients. The hospital recently recorded 23 COVID-19 patients – breaking their all-time record.

The hospital has been in the news lately – recently unveiling a new name and brand, as hospital leadership raised the flag for a new era for the regional healthcare facility. The hospital is known for its award-winning care, recognized as Colorado’s only six-time Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital by The Chartis Center for Rural Health.

Montrose Regional Health is a 501(c)3 nonprofit healthcare system serving Montrose, San Miguel, Ouray, Gunnison, Delta, Hinsdale and San Juan counties.

The health system offers a 75-bed hospital and an extensive range of inpatient & outpatient health care services, including cardiology, oncology, minimally invasive surgery, laboratory, medical imaging/radiology, Mountain View Therapy, Level III Trauma Center, Acute Rehabilitation Unit and the family birthing center. The health system partners with regional providers on joint ventures to meet local healthcare needs, including Black Canyon Surgical Center.

Montrose Regional Health is the second-largest employer in Montrose County, with more than 700 employees and 100 physicians who represent 23 medical specialties.
